2011 World Series of Poker Sets Numerous Records Including Most Participants in History
The 2011 World Series of Poker set numerous records this year, including the largest single day attendance ever, largest $1,500 buy-in event in poker history, and largest Omaha tournament in live poker history.
The 42nd Annual World Series of Poker set an all-time record for attendance for the series with 75,672 players. Over 58 events, the largest prize pool in WSOP history was amassed with $191,999,010 up for grabs. This is the seventh straight year that the WSOP had a total prize pool over $100 Million.
Here are some of the records set this summer during the 2011 WSOP:
Most million dollar tournaments: 46 of 58 events this year had a prize pool of $1 Million. 44 events had $1 Million prize pools last year.
Largest Seniors Event ever: 3,752 players turned out for Event #30, crushing the record of 3,142 from last year. The Seniors Event also set the record for single day attendance ever in a live poker tournament.
Biggest single day in a $1,500 buy-in event: Event #56 had 3,389 players.
All-time Final Tables and All-Time Cashes: Phil Hellmuth extended his lead in both these categories this year. He now has 84 career WSOP cashes and 43 trips to the final table.
Largest Omaha Event in poker history: 1,071 players turned out for Event #22 – $1,500 Pot Limit Omaha.
Largest Omaha Hi-Lo Event: Event #3 set the record for largest Omaha Hi-Lo Event in history with 925.
The 2011 WSOP Main Event drew a massive field of 6,865. This makes the 2011 Main Event the third largest Main Event in history. The prize pool for the Main Event is $64,531,000 with first place taking home $8,711,956.
The Main Event is currently completing Day 2b. Several big names are still alive in the event, including Phil Hellmuth who is the current leader in the 2011 WSOP Player of the Year points race.
