Eric Rodawig - $10,000 Stud 8 or Better Championship bracelet winner

Rodwaig, 26, hails from Arlington, VA. He graduated from Georgetown University and works as a Banker.  While he has been playing poker for years he is not a full time poker pro. Even though he plays other forms of poker his passion is for Stud-Hi Lo.

Rodwaig is one of the instructors at Cardrunners. He says that while many people specialize in the more popular No Limit Hold’Em or Pot Limit Omaha games, he prefers Stud High Low. Rodwaig says that he loves the game and considers it an action game where people will chase draws and try to win half the pot.

This was not only the first bracelet for Rodwaig it was his first win in any major event. Before his bracelet win, his largest cash came in the 2009 WSOP $2500 Razz tournament where he came in 5th place and $38,470. The field of players in event #33 was incredibly strong. Last years champion Frank Kassela was joined by other poker luminaries such as Mike Sexton, Phil Hellmuth, Ted Forest, Erik Seidel and John Hennigan. All things considered, this event was shaping up to be one of the toughest fields of any event at the WSOP.

Rodwaig started Day 2 with 46800 in chips. A huge hand for Rodawig occurred when he busted Thor Hansen and Eric Buchman when his lone pair of Kings scooped a monster pot. This pot put Rodwaig at 490,000 chips. At the end of Day 2 Rodawig was the chip leader with 695,000 in chips.

Rodwaig maintained his chip lead and it eventually came down to 4 players. Rodawig, Hellmuth, Forest and Racener all were looking to take down the event. Racener eventually eliminated Forest in 4th place and moved up in chips. Racener and Hellmuth were now almost even in chips. They battled it out until Hellmuth busted Racener in 3rd place.

It was now down to heads-up between Hellmuth and Rodwaig. Hellmuth was once again close to getting his 12th bracelet and his first non No-Limit Hold’Em. The match was exciting; with spectators watching to see if Hellmuth could take down the event but it wasn’t to be. Rodawig won the event with two pair when Hellmuth cold not catch to make a straight. Rodawig won $442,183 as well as his first bracelet.
