Hasan Anter - Event #56 bracelet winner

The field included many amateurs as well as a large number of pro’s, all of who were all looking to take home a huge payday as well as the prestigious bracelet. Some of the recognizable names in attendance were: Andre Akkari, Jean-Robert Bellande, Vanessa Selbst, Liv Boeree and Jeff Madsen.

Hasan Anter, 22, is a semi-professional poker player from Uppsala, Sweden. Anter is currently a college student, where he is studying Website Design, and plans to continue his studies. Anter started playing poker when he was 16 years old.

Anter has played online at various different sites, as well as playing in private cardrooms around Sweden. Anter’s friends introduced him to poker and he admits that at first he was a total fish. However, he spent time reading and studying and eventually his game improved.

This was the first time Anter has ever played in the WSOP. He came to Vegas to play the main event, so the win in the $1,500 was all the more surprising. Anter claims that his goal for the series was to cash in the Main Event and he had not originally intended to even play Event #56.

The field of 3,389 players was reduced to 465 players by the end of Day 1. Anter finished Day 1 with 61,800 chips. Day 2 saw the field further reduced to 42 players. Anter finished Day 2 with 719,000 chips.

On Day 3, when the final table was reached, Anter had accumulated a huge stack. Anter was 2nd in chips (3,200,000) behind Andy Philachack (5,350,000). Anter then began to chip up and eliminated John Horvatich in 6th place and John Borzio in 5th. Anter now was sitting with a commanding lead and 8.9 million in chips.

When it got down to the final 3 players Anter had 11.5 million chips. Andy Philachack had 2,350,000 chips and Nemer Haddad had 1,270,000 chips. The play continued until the hard-stop rule came into effect. The players would return to play for the bracelet on Day 4.

After Nemer Haddad eliminated Andy Philachack in 3rd place it was down to heads-up. Haddad had chipped up and was now in position to regain the lead, but it was not to be. The final hand had the players getting it all in pre-flop. Anter raised the button and Haddad shipped his stack all in. Anter called and the men tabled their hands. Anter had As-4d and Haddad had Ad-2c. The flop came Ks-Qs-Js, the turn was the 4s and the river was the Js. Anter had won his first bracelet with a Royal Flush and took home $777,928 for the win.
