On Tuesday, Rep Porter took down Event #44 of the 2011 WSOP, the $2,500 Razz Event. Porter won $210,615 in addition to winning his second WSOP bracelet. Porter came out on top of a starting field of 363 players. Porter had to surpass a number of established players including Daniel Negreanu, Todd Brunson, Cyndy Violette, and John Monnette. This latest win puts Porters career winnings at just over $1.5 million.
Porter is married with two children and lives in Woodinville, WA. Porter graduated from the University of Washington and worked in the financial industry as an options trader. During his time working in the financial industry Porter took an interest in poker. He began to play in the poker rooms of Washington State and also traveled to the card rooms of California.
Porter’s first major score came in 2003. He came in 4th at the 1K No-Limit Hold’Em event at the 2003 United States Poker Championship, Atlantic City for $9,720. In 2004 Porter came in 23rd and took home $18,120 at the 2004 WPT Borgata 10K.
Porter then had his first cash at the 2005 WSOP. He came in 15th in the 5K Limit Hold’Em event and took home $12,645 for his efforts. The following year he had three cashes in the WSOP. He cashed in the 2K Omaha Hi/Lo, the $2,500 Pot Limit Hold’Em. He also final tabled the $1,500 Limit Hold’Em Shootout and cashed for $39,339.
Porter’s success continued at the 2007 WSOP. He cashed in 4 events: $1,500 No Limit Hold’Em, $1,500 No Limit Hold’Em 6 Handed, $2,500 No Limit Hold’Em 6 Handed, and the $10,000 Main Event. For coming in 39th in the Main Event Porter took home $237,865.
In 2008 he won his first bracelet in the $1,500 6-handed No-Limit Hold’Em event. This was his biggest score to date, netting him $372,843. Porter also cashed in the $1,500 Omaha Hi/Lo.
In 2009 Porter had three cashes at the WSOP: $1,500 Limit Hold’Em, $1,000 No Limit Hold’Em, and the $2,000 Limit Hold’Em. In 2010 Porter won the Eighth Annual Five Star World Poker Classic, Las Vegas 1K event for $30,555.
2010 was a quiet year for Porter. He had one cash at the WSOP in the $2,000 Limit Hold’Em event. However, 2011 was going to be a standout. Porter came in 19th in the $2,500 Limit Hold’Em Six-Max and cashed for $6,998. Porter’s big score would have to wait until WSOP event #44-$2,500 Razz.
The final table of event #44 included some tough opponents including Robert Williamson III. When it got down to heads-up it was Stephen Su and Rep Porter. The heads-up match finished at 3:30 a.m. due to the hard stop rule and they would have to wait until Day 4. Su had a 3:2 chip lead over Rep Porter.
On Day 4 Porter was able to climb back until he had Su down to 300K in chips. Porter busted Su when Su got his remaining chips in with 3x-2x-Ax. Porter had 6x-9x-8s. Su caught a 4x on fourth street while Porter paired his 8. Fifth street was a Ten for Su and a 2 for Porter. Su caught a King on seventh which did not help and Porter was dealt a Q. Porter had won the event and with it his second WSOP bracelet.
