“A Closer Look” at Some of the 2011 WSOP Main Event Day 6 Chip Leaders
We are currently in the Day 7 of the 2011 WSOP. Yesterday, there was lot of movement in the stacks. Today we are going to give you some background on some of the big stacks from yesterday not named Phil Collins or Ben Lamb.
Ryan Lenaghan – 12,865,000
Lenaghan is a graduate of Louisiana State University. Lenaghan is originally from Alabama but currently resides in New Orleans. Lenaghan got interested in poker after seeing Chris Moneymaker win the WSOP. He played online until he was 21, then he began to play live. He plays a lot at Harrah’s as well as at the Beau Rivage in Mississippi.
Lenaghan has an aggressive style and is not afraid to put in his stack. The hand that put him in the chip lead is a great example. He 6-bet all in with pocket Jacks in a spot where he could very well be up against Queens-Aces. At best he knew he was flipping. However, he was ahead and won the pot and became the chip leader. Up until now his career winnings have totaled $159,969.
Matt Giannetti – 7,940,000
Matt Giannetti is from Austin, Texas and attended the University of Texas for two years before dropping out to pursue poker full time. Giannetti began playing online when he was 19. He deposited $40 and turned it into $2,000 in 3 months starting at 25nl. Giannetti admits that he was very lucky to not go broke. He says he had no idea about bankroll management and was playing $3-$6 NL with a $2,000 roll.
Giannetti then moved to Vegas and began playing live. He recalls some tough beats in the $200-$400 No Limit Game that played with a $100 ante. Giannetti was playing a super aggressive style that had him reevaluating his style. He changed his attitude and began playing solid in cash games in order to book consistent wins
He is still capable of pulling off bluffs, as the following hand will show. Giannetti raised it 2,100 preflop and was called by Elia Ahmadian as well as the player in the big blind. The flop came 9c-4h-2s and the players all checked. The turn was the Th and it was checked to Ahmadian who bet 3,800. The player in the big blind folded and Giannetti called. The river was the Kc and Giannetti checked. Ahmadian bet out 6,000. Giannetti then check raised to 17,500. Ahmadian tanked for a while and then made a reluctant call. Giannetti announced Ace high and Ahmadian won the pot with Ks-Qc.
Andrey Pateychuk – 7,255,000
Andrey Pateychuk is from Moscow. He is currently a student and learned how to play poker from studying strategy books and watching videos. His first live cash came in 2010 at the 2010 Annual Merit Poker Open, Kyrenia. He came in 4th for $29,537.
Online, Pateychuk plays under the screen name aangierr and has won $158,994.83 on PokerStars. This will be the first time Pateychuk has cashed in the WSOP.
Hilton Ladorba – 7,160,000
Ladorba is from Brazil, as anyone who has seen him at the table can attest. He wears the national flag draped around him, cape style. He is playing an unorthodox style that has attracted a lot of attention, as the following hand demonstrates. Ladorba was heads-up in a pot with Tyler Bonkowski. The flop came Ah-Tc-2h and Ladorba check called. The turn was a 7d and again Ladorba check called. The river was a 4c and Ladorba lead out for 1 million. Bonkowski called and Ladorba got out of his chair and roared in excitement as he turned over the 5x-3x for the wheel.
Nelson Robinson 6,420,000
Robinson is from Washington, D.C. He is a very successful online MTT player who has $930,429.78 in online tournament winnings. His only cash before this years Main Event was in the 2010 WSOP Circuit – Harrah’s Atlantic City where he came in 25th for $3,800. Robinson has had some good hands this tournament. The problem is they didn’t all hold up. He was dealt pocket Aces and got it all in preflop against Frank Sinopoli’s pocket Kings only to have a King fall on the river. Luckily Robinson had chips left and soon he had another shot with the Aces. This time he was all in against Hoi Le, who also had pocket Kings. This time the Aces held and Robinson was back in action.
