Erik Seidel Wins Aussie Millions Super High Roller Event

The largest buy-in event in the history of poker kicked off Thursday as the Aussie Millions held a $250,000 buy-in Super High Roller’s Event.  This event was just recently announced and organizers were hoping that they would get around one table for the event.  By the time registration was completed, 20 players turned out with the necessary buy-in to take their shot at a top prize of $2.5 Million.

Erik Seidel wins largest buy-in event in poker history.

Among those participating in the event were 8-time bracelet winners Phil Ivey and Erik Seidel, Annette Obrestad, David Benyamine, Sam Trickett, WSOP Europe Champ James Boyd, Chris Ferguson, Daniel Cates, Roland De Wolfe, and Alexander Kostritsyn.

The final table of the event included Phil Ivey, David Benyamine, Erik Seidel and Sam Tricket.  However, only three players would be paid in this event, so there was still a lot of work to be done.  In the end, it was Seidel, Benyamine, and Trickett as the top three players left in the field.  Each guaranteed at least $1 Million in prize money.

David Benyamine took a bad beat to finish in 3rd.  On a board of A-10-8-A, Benyamine was all-in with A-6 facing the A-4 of Trickett.  What seemed to be a chopped pot turned into the end of Benyamine’s tournament when the 4h hit the river to give Trickett a full house.  Benyamine finished in 3rd place and took home $1 Million.

At the start of heads-up play, Sam Trickett held a dominating chip lead over Erik Seidel.  Seidel is known for hanging in until the bitter end, and he did just that.  He slowly chipped away at Trickett for around 45 minutes until he held a dominating chip lead.  Then on the final hand, Siedel called an all-in check raise holding top pair against the A-Q of Trickett.  Trickett could not catch an ace or queen, and was out in 2nd place.

Erik Seidel won $2.5 Million for winning the largest buy-in event ever.  In addition, he moved up to 3rd place all-time on the money list.  He is now less than a half million behind Daniel Negreanu for first place.

Seidel’s win also caps off a month that has seen him win nearly $3.5 Million at the tables.  At this rate, he should take over first place on the money list about the 2nd week of February.  As always, we will keep you updated on any changed in the all-time money list situation.
