Caribbean Pirate Poker Rules
At the start of the game each player places an initial bet on the table directly in front of their chosen character. Five cards are then dealt to each person, including the dealer – who is the first to expose one of his five cards.
You will then review your five card hand and decide whether to fold or raise the initial bet. Keep in mind the raise is ALWAYS twice the size of the initial bet. The decision to raise should be based on the strength of your hand and the information provided by the dealer’s face up card. You will then be faced with several scenarios:
- You believe your hand is inferior to that of the dealer’s, folding and forfeiting your initial bet. Swab the deck matey!
- You do not hold a qualifying hand (at least a pair, or a combination of an ace and a king), but you wager that the dealer does not hold a qualifying hand either, so you raise and bluff. If the dealer does not hold a winning hand, you win 1-1 on your initial bet and receive back your raised bet. Yo-ho-ho, and a bottle of rum!
- Similar to the above scenario, you do not hold a qualifying hand, and wager that the dealer doesn’t have one either by bluffing and raising. If the dealer does hold a qualifying hand, both your initial bet and raised bet are lost. Shiver me timbers!
- You hold a qualifying hand and raise your initial bet. If the dealer does not hold a qualifying hand, you win 1 to 1 on your initial bet, and the raised bet is returned. Ahoy, me hearty!
- You hold a qualifying hand, and raise your initial bet. If the dealer also holds a qualifying hand which is seen to be inferior to your hand, you win both 1 to 1 on the initial bet and the dealer’s raised bet. The paid raised bet is determined by the hand you win with. See the payout table. Arrr!
- You hold a qualifying hand and raise your bet. In the unfortunate event that the dealer exposes a superior hand, all your bets during this hand are lost. Walk the plank!
- You hold a qualifying hand and raise your bet. If the dealer displays the exact same hand, your bet will be returned to you. Ah-har!, this is called a ‘push’ Jim lad!
Special Rules for Jackpot Payouts
In the unlikely occurrence of two players playing the same limit, hitting Jackpot hands during the same deal the following rules apply:
All fixed Jackpot payouts (Flush, Full House and Four of Kind) always pay full. Jackpots are paid out right to left (based on the player’s perspective). So if two players during the same hand hit the jackpot the player on the right will win a jackpot based on the current jackpot amount. Then the jackpot resets to its starting value before moving on and paying the player on the left.
