WHAT NOT TO DO…

  • Play while upset, fatigued or plain mad.
    It will ruin your game.
  • Try to bluff everyone on the first hand. They will end up bluffing you.
  • Play every hand. Learn to fold faster than Superman on laundry day!
  • Don’t be afraid to ask around. Poker players are helpful people.
  WHAT TO DO…

  • Know your poker odds.
If you understand the math of the game you win.
  • Trust your instincts.
They’re usually right. If you think you’re beat, you probably are.
  • Think before you act.
  • Learn the three basics: starting hand value, position play and folding

3 BASIC RULES OF HOLD’EM

1. Starting hand Value
Two pocket cards, or hole cards, is what separate your hand from the other player’s
hand. So learning how to play them is vital. An AA (ace-ace) combo simply has a much greater
chance of winning than say a 7-3 combo. Play the good starting hands. Fold the bad.
2. Position Play
Being seated in a “late position” is a huge advantage, getting to see your
opponents move before you act yourself. To become a good player, one must understand this.
A good starting hand in an early position may actually be a worse hand to play than a bad
hand in late position.
3. Fold
No matter the betting round, if you have nothing and can’t draw to anything, fold
faster than Superman on laundry day. It’s as simple as that. For more information about how to master your Poker Strategy.

  1. Hi, I recently started playing poker and I’ve noticed that there’s a big difference in what type of hands players move all in with.

I know QQ is a big hand but should you ever fold it pre flop?

  2. Hello Amy,

I’m afraid there’s no easy way answer to you question.

There are many factors to consider while playing poker. Stack sizes, your opponents tendencies, your own image etc.

Regarding folding queens pre flop there are two standard situations you might find yourself in at the poker table:

    1. No matter what level you are playing at you’ll always bump into some really tight players. Even though they will stay out of your way most of the time, once they give you action, be very afraid!

    2. If you are playing a table full of passive or tight players, and there’s suddenly a lot of re-raising infront of you. When it’s your turn to act you can be pretty sure that your up against aces or kings.

    Good luck
