Lederer and Furst File Claims as Black Friday Companies Granted Extension

Several legal maneuvers occurred this week in the U.S. Department of Justice’s Black Friday indictments of PokerStars, Absolute Poker, and Full Tilt Poker.  All this after a proposed deal has been struck between Groupe Bernard Tapie and the DOJ to purchase Full Tilt.

When will we finally get a trial or settlement in this matter?

First, it appears that each company has been granted yet another extension to answer the modified complaint filed on September 21st of this year.  Originally, the companies were supposed to give an answer by November 30th, but according to three separate Stipulation and Orders, the companies now have until January 2nd, 2012 to answer or respond.  The Full Tilt complaint did acknowledge that the company was in settlement discussions with the US, but did not mention of any deal struck.

Also, on the 28th both Howard Lederer and Rafe Furst filed claims for seized bank accounts.  Much like Ray Bitar and Chris Ferguson before them, they invoked Rule G(5)(a) of the Supplemental Rules for Admiralty and Maritime Claims.

Furst’s claim was for an account at Pictet and Co Bankers in Switzerland that is listed under the name Telamonian Ajax Trust.  Furst is the beneficiary of the trust.  A dollar amount was not listed on the account.

Lederer filed a claim for a pair of accounts.  The first was under the name HH Lederer Consulting LLC and is held at Wells Fargo Bank, N.A.  The other appears to be a personal account with Lloyds TSB International in the Isle of Man.  Amounts for these accounts were not listed.

The purpose of the accounts was not listed, but these accounts could possibly be ones that are not tied to Full Tilt.  Of course, if these accounts are proven to hold payments from the company, and the proposed deal with GBT goes through, the claims may prove void.

The DOJ is still not confirming or denying whether a deal is in place with GBT.  Whether this is due to the extensions granted in the case or some other reason is unknown, but players and fans are beginning to wonder if this is just another in a long line of deception by Full Tilt.  We will bring you more on this story as it develops.
