Mikhail Lakhitov Wins 2011 WSOP Event #36 – $2,500 No-Limit Hold’em

Mikhail Lakhitov won WSOP Event #36 of the 2011 WSOP: $2,500 No-Limit Hold’em.   He took home the bracelet and $749,610 in first place prize money.  This is the first World Series bracelet for Lakhitov who has cashed in events before but has never taken home the top prize. Lakhitov came out on top of 1734 players to win the title.

Event #36 drew a mix of players, ranging from seasoned pros and online cash game grinders, to amateurs looking for a big win. Issac Haxton, Randy Lew and Liv Boeree were some of the well-known young pros in attendance.

At the end of Day 1 the starting field of 1743 players was reduced to 296. Among the notable names that were still in contention were Terrance Chan, J.C.Tran, and Gavin Smith.

Day 2 wrapped with 39 players remaining. Thomas Miller held a commanding chip lead with 1.5 million in chips. Right behind him was Lakhitov with 981,000 in chips.

David “The Dragon” Pham made one of the first exits on Day 3. Pham got his remaining stack in on a Qh-Tc-Jh board holding Qd-9h. His opponents had flopped the straight, holding Ac-Kh, and Pham was sent home.

Lakhitov continued to chip up throughout the day. He finished the day 2nd in chips with 2,705,000 chips. Thomas Middleton was in first with 4,030,000 chips. Day 4 would start with 5 players remaining.

Eddy Sabat was first to be eliminated on Day 4 when his Ad-7c was outdrawn by Millers Jh-Ts after an all-in. Miller was the next to go when his could not spike an Ace and Lakhitov’s pocket Queens won against Millers Ad-Jc.

Middleton was the next to go when his pocket Tens could not hold against Lakhitov’s Ax-Kx. It was then down to heads up between Lakhitov and Hassan Babajane. Babajane had 1.9 million in chips to Lakhitov’s 11 million.

The final had saw the players all in preflop. Lakhitov shoved all in from the button and Babajane called. Lakhitov held Kh-2d and Babajane held Qd-8d. The board ran out 6d-Ad-Ah-4s-Tc and Lakhitov won the tournament and his first ever WSOP bracelet.
