Stealing the blinds in Online Poker

Poker has so many approaches that change with so many styles and so many ideas that it is a wonder any new player knows what to do. Blind stealing is one strategy that never fully gets the respect it really deserves and it is certainly a shame because it can be highly lucrative. Traditionally blind stealing has some limitations on it and ‘proper’ ways in which to execute it however with the huge boom in poker the styles have been altered through experimentation and new methods have emerged.

Online poker has certainly changed everything, for the better or the worse it has changed and the unspoken rules of poker that transpired through gentlemen have certainly been called into question. Now online poker players do everything they can to turn a profit and for some that includes playing tournaments and for others Sit-N-Go’s and still others just grinding out the months rent at a cash game like in Vegas.

Blind stealing originally starts to take advantage in poker tournaments because of the fact that in the middle and the end of the game the blinds are severally increased in comparison with table top cash poker games. The awesome thing in tournaments is the simple fact that the blinds do get larger and larger and so before you know it they are significant amounts of chips. Trying to steal the blinds can be very dangerous if done carelessly; however it has the potential to pay off when done right.

Normally blind stealing is usually attempted when players are sitting in late positions. Only trying to steal the blinds when you are in this late position this is so you have the most knowledge of the table than in any other position. For example if you are in the last position and therefore the last person to make a bet on the pot you have the chance to recognize a weak handed table and take advantage of that. If everyone at the table is representing weak hands and playing shyly then blind stealing is a perfect strategy. It has become easier to steal the blinds when playing free poker games on Facebook pokerice. This is really where blind stealing shines. It is not that it only works when you are in the late positions but the problem is that it becomes significantly riskier when you are in an earlier position because you don’t know if those last hands may be strong hands. It can be done and does happen perhaps because later players see an earlier player drop a significant bet early on and they think they must have a good hand. Either way the truth is that trying to steal blinds from an earlier position can never really be suggested as a good idea.

Blind stealing does help at cash games and some people have even be able to turn profits off of it, but when you measure the degree of risk involved with the actual amount of profits it is readily apparent that it is not a good method of poker to go into a table with. You can never win with just blind stealing, it can however lend an edge and help you to out last those other players or bring a little extra cash home at the end of the day.
