SNG Strategy part four
Carrying on from part three then and you obviously cannot fold your way to the money even in a sit and go otherwise everyone would be doing it. You must therefore become very aggressive towards the latter stages of the SNG but the real coup de grace is that your aggression now has to get through less players to get to the money. So when my poker stack is down to the 600-650 mark then I will be looking to push all in and double through.
I am now getting aggressive to get into contention not only to get into the money but to win the poker tournament as well. Because my strategy is to wait and wait during the small early levels and then either steal or double through then it stands to reason that I want as big a poker stack as possible when that happens and if I have been calling 25’s and 50’s off then had to fold on the flop, that will not be the case.
Let us stop and assess what I have been doing here for a minute and try to see the advantages of it. Because I have been playing super tight early on, I have in fact been buying myself time. Stopping myself from wasting valuable chips means that I can see more hands and seeing more hands means that I have more time to run across big hands that can double me up.
While this is happening other players are busy either increasing their stacks or getting blown out. For every player that gets knocked out, my chances of reaching the money increase. Also there is another very subtle point as to why this poker strategy works. Because my really tight game plan has taken me close to the money, this means that when I switch gears and become super aggressive that I will catch other players in a far different state of mind as they start to tighten up as they near the pay off positions.
It is vitally important to point out that when I switch gears and become aggressive that I do not mess around with small raises of three times the big blind for instance, it is ALL IN and that is it. I either steal their blinds or I make someone call a sizeable amount. I do not like to get below 6 big blinds before I make my move and attempt to double up as my move will not carry enough weight behind it to make the other players fearful.
I usually need to make a move by the 50-100 level and this is why I stated about not getting below 6 big blinds. So at the 50-100 level I will not allow myself to get below 600, I may push the boat out depending on the circumstances and go down to about 550 but certainly no further than that. Otherwise I will lose the power to go all in and only get one caller or to steal the blinds which are well worth stealing at the 50-100 level.
This poker strategy involves playing like super rock at the beginning and early levels and only getting involved with AA,KK,QQ and AK. Hands like JJ and 10-10 I limp in and try to see a cheap flop. When I get a premium hand I raise all in, if everyone folds then it is no problem but I sometimes get calls from players racing with hands like 99 or AQ and I double up very early on. Look out for part five coming soon.
