PokerRoom.com Set to Reopen Online Poker Site
PokerRoom began operation in 2009 and became one of the first site in online poker to offer real money online poker games. It steadily grew and then exploded in growth after 2003 thanks to the poker boom. Unfortunately, the site had to pull out the US market in 2006. By 2009, the sites revenue dropped to a point where owners decided to pull the plug. However, in recent developments it appears that the site may become operational once more.
Since 2009, PokerRoom.com retained its domain but rerouted players to bwin.com. That changed a week ago when the redirection banners were replaced with a banner claiming that the site was going “Back to the Future.” Online poker blogger Compncards of Pokerjunkie.com posted on his blog last Tuesday regarding the matter but no further information was available.
That changed the very next day when one of bwin’s SEO managers Josef Rantamäki revealed that PokerRoom was to start offering online poker once again. Questions started flying in from all over for the next day. However, in a bit of a odd move, Rantamäki seemed to recant those tweets when he said that he just got excited over the change in banners on the website.
We contacted compncards at pokerjunkie.com and asked about his thoughts on the developments and Rantamäki’s comments. He stated, “In all honesty, I think Josef screwed up. It looks like they were trying to be vague and he let the cat out of the bag. Personally, I think it will be a good thing and Ongame should have never shut the site down in the first place.”
PokerRoom opened in 1999 and started as a free money online poker site, much like the “social media poker sites” of today. Later, they started offering online poker cash games at a time where the technology was new and many sites were seen as shady. PokerRoom quickly gained a reputation for honesty and became the first online poker site in history to receive the eCogra seal of approval.
The reopening of PokerRoom would be a big boost to the Ongame Network and would give them a big name to lean upon once US online poker legalization finally goes through. While a date has not be announced for the reopening of the site, players can sign-up on the site for updates.

b.s. the reason it was pulled was because of bwin “one brand” strategy and to bring the bwin germany (now ongame again) more involved into bwin (now bwin.party). great that pokerroom is back, though.
