Steve O’Dwyer Wins First Ever Epic Poker League Main Event
The first every Epic Poker League Pro-Am event kicked off this past Friday at the Palms in Las Vegas. EPL’s Pro-Am event is the only other way that a player can earn their way into a EPL Main Event. The final nine players in the Pro-Am earn a non-transferable seat into that series’ Main Event. Steve O’Dwyer rose above the rest of the field and became the first player in history to win an EPL Pro-Am Event.
The Pro-Am was split up over two starting days, and by the end of the two Day 1 starts, 190 players entered the event. As such, the final 18 players in the event received a payday. A total of just 29 players survived the two Day 1 flights and returned to battle it out on Day 2.
By the end of Day 2, the final table of six was set. Sean Getzwiler, George Long, and Dan Fleyshman all earned their Main Event seat but fell short of the final table. Micah Raskin, Clifford Waite, Steve O’Dwyer, Brandon Meyers, Jeremiah DeGreef, and Andy Bloch all made the final six. Out of the final nine to earn their seats, Andy Bloch was the only Season 1 qualifier to earn his seat. Season 1 qualifiers are allowed to buy-in directly into the Main Event due to their past performance in live poker.
The final table of the event started with Steve O’Dwyer with more than a 2:1 chip lead over the rest of the field. In the end, it was O’Dwyer that took down the event to win his seat into the EPL Main Event as well as $23,810 in prize money.
Dwyer did indeed enter the Main Event, but unfortunately his luck did not hold as he was eliminated prior to the start of Day 2 action.
The EPL will hold Pro-Am events during each of their four series at the Palms. Each event is a $1,500 buy-in and nine spots will be guaranteed a spot into the Main Event. For more, visit Epic Poker’s website.
