In Holdem, the object is to make the best five card hand. If the best hand is the five cards on the board, then the players still in the hand at showdown chop the pot. The hole cards would be irrelevant. That's the same whether you are playing a tournament or in Vegas. An example would be if you had A-10 and your Opponent had K-Q but the board was 4-5-6-7-8. Both of your would have an eight high straight. Hope this answers your question.

James so in the instance of the straight in the river and two cards in the hand what would be the rule in a tourney or in Vegas. Seems to me the person with the highest hold card would win the pot. Is this true or not?

Technically, a person is not supposed to show his cards to anyone at the table. However, if this happens, that does not kill his hand. The player may receive a penalty in a tourney, but they do not get their hand killed. Your objection was unfounded

i was recently playing a large pot heads up on a texas table when my opponent showed his cards to a player sitting next to him who was completely out of the game. he went on to win the hand which i objected too. he said this practice was ok but i said his hand should be mucked and the pot mine. what is the ruling here? thank you

In Texas Holdem, you are not required you use your two hole cards. The object is to make the five card hand. If your best five card hand is the five cards on the board, then you will not use your hole cards. In your scenario, this is a split pot. Your opponent does not have to call her hand. In most modern poker games, cards speak. However, you both will need to show your hole cards in order to receive the pot in most casinos.

I have a question on TX.Holem game. If there is only 2 players
left in the game, and on the board all 5 cards are showen as a'
high straight. Do you have to use your 2 hand dealt cards to win or do you split the pot. Does your opponent have to call her way of winning? I thought you had to use your 2 dealt hands regardless of what is showing on the board. Please help!
