Playing the Big Stack
Today’s guests on Poker Roundtable where Howard Lederer, Annie Duke, Ted Forrest, Eric Seidel, and David Grey. The conversation was about playing with the big stack.
Ted Forrest was talking about how it was hard for him to protect his stack once he had it. He goes on that he was trying to chase and force people out and stealing blinds. Annie stated that people often think that they need to take out all the short stacks. This is not necessary though. You should let the short stacks knock each other out. You can lose a lot of money when you are trying to knock everyone out.
David Grey tries to intimidate people but still have action. You need to be aggressive but at the right moments not just over reaching.
They discuss that you don’t want to appear over aggressive. Sometimes showing the cards proving that you have the cards when people are folding can keep people from going after you.
People also forget how easy to lose the big stack and be gone completely. It can go in only two or three hands so you are not invincible.
Annie keeps discussing how the big stack often times get suckered into losing their chips quicker than they thought. She really was one of the highlights of this episode. She goes on to say how the big stack will get caught up if they are the big blind or they think that they can knock you out if they are lucky.
This went back to Ted Forrest discussing how important it is for players to protect these stacks because of this. The general consensus was that you should not get overly aggressive just because you have the big stack. This was more to the fact when bringing this up with tournament play.
