Reading Players At the Table
In this episode of Poker Roundtable includes Howard Lederer, John Juanda, Erick Lindgren, Kristy Gazes and Barry Greenstein. This show is focusing on reading players.
Erick starts off talking about how people show that they are an amateur quickly. They will fumble their chips and show nervous tells. Barry talks about of the internet has made players better and its harder to read people. This is because they understand the game but they might not be comfortable at the table. People can play thousands of hands online but not understand the nuances of a live table.
Howard goes on to shows how people who play online have tells with their cards. With online play many players will hit the fold button up once they see their cards. He noticed how this translates to live poker than many of these players will push the cards to the side from the beginning because they know they are going to fold. He tells people it can be advantageous to not look at your cards until it’s your turn to act.
Barry talks about how people show many tells over time. When tournaments happen they can get away with these tells once but it might be enough for them.
Kristy goes on to state how important it is to watch all the players. She recommends ear phones or glasses to keep themselves focused when starting out. Barry talks about when you are out of a hand that you need to read the rest of the table. Howard emphasizes that you can win a tournament by learning a tell from when you weren’t even involved in the hand by paying attention.
Erick talks how it is important to watch your opponent. He goes on to judge people by their demeanor and how they play. Barry shows how similar players can have similar tells.
