Slow Playing in Poker

This roundtable was filled up by Howard Lederer, Daniel Negreanu, Phil Hellmuth Jr., Phil Gordon and Clonie Gowen. There was an instant chemistry between Daniel and Phil. They were taking shots from the introduction.

Daniel started off by stating that people can be dangerous with slow playing. People get caught off by slow playing cards that shouldn’t since there not that strong. He goes on to state that you should only be slow playing really strong hands.

Clonie was next further stating this point that people can get to cute with the slow play. Often time’s people get beaten that way.

Phil was stated to be the gutsiest of the slow players. He talks about that it’s a traditional thought not to slow play with high pairs. Phil said that he just starts reading people instead of having a system. He knows he won when the players checks at the end.

Daniel says it’s harder to slow play than be aggressive. This was because you have to wait it out and understand more of the table instead of just the cards.

Phil Gordon talks about having a reason for slow playing. He talks about the opponent needing to catch up and Phil said trying to sniff out of a bluff. They all agreed that it is important to understand why you can catch someone with slow playing.

Clonie talks about how all players need to have this trick up there bag. They talk how aggressive players need to slow player from time to time. This is a great change up. The discussion goes on about how you always need to mix up your play.

The tip of the table was that if a player checks late with a lot of money on the board you need to be wary. Often times these players will be trying to get you in deeper.
