Who’s Number 1 in Poker?
A discussion for number one is always an interesting one and especially in poker. The roundtable was made up today of Howard Lederer, John Juanda, Barry Greenstein, Eric Lindgren, and Kristy Gazes.
The first part comes out is that nobody believes there is one best person. Barry brought it up since there are many different types of games. Kristy wants a tournament with multiple types of games with the final being Texas Holdem.
John was looking for a method such as golf or tennis. They started bringing up the no limit player. Eric Lindgren stated the Phil Ivey was number one. Most people seemed to agree with this for tournaments but Barry didn’t think as much. Barry stated that the people on the table had great results but they were beating lesser opponents.
The question was brought up if it was important? Eric was very excited about the idea of having a #1 player in the world. Barry seemed more to believe that it was not important and nobody would ever have a true answer. Barry kept talking about how tournaments change it and cash games are never included. He keeps saying how tournaments take some of the skill away.
John talked about how you need to be able to adapt the situation. This truly shows who could be the greatest poker player in the world.
The facts were that Barry seemed to be the only one against having a number one player. Most understood that the ranking would be subjective but a fun title. They also saw how it could bring exposure to poker and to that player. Barry seemed believe that there was importance to this at all. Makes me believe that he is loving just being able to take over cash games and not worry about the tournament life.
