WSOP Releases 2011 Main Event Participation Stats
Officials at WSOP have crunched the numbers and have put together a series of stats regarding the 2011 WSOP.
The number of entrants in the 2011 WSOP Main Event was 6,865 and then number of chips in play are 205,950,000. The average age of participants in the Main Event is 37.17 years of age. The youngest player in the Main Event was Logan Deen from Cocoa, FL. He turned 21 on Day 1b of the Main Event. The oldest person in the field was Ellen Deeb from Troy, NY. She is currently 91 years old.
The number of males participating in the event were 6,623, or 96.5 percent of the field. Females made up 3.5 percent of the field, or 242 runners. A total of 83 countries participated in the Main Event and the United States had the most players with 4,614. Canada came in 2nd with 488 players. The UK saw 288 players play in the Main Event and France was the only other country to send over 200 players with 213 players.
Every state in the U.S. participated in the Main Event with California leading with 796. Nevada was next with 460 players, followed by New York with 422, Florida with 358, and Texas with 326.
Some of the notable celebrities in the field were David Einhorn, actresses Shannon Elizabeth and Jennifer Tilly, actors Ray Ramano and Brad Garrett, rapper Nelly, and Boston Celtics star Paul Pierce.
The field of 6,865 players was the third largest Main Event field in World Series of Poker history. When the money bubble burst, 693 players will receive a payday and first place will earn $8.71 Million in top prize money.
Jonathan Duhamel is the 2010 Main Event Champion and survive Day 1, but fell during Day 2a play, meaning that the last repeat champion is still Johnny Chan. The Main Event will continue play until July 19th when the November Nine will convene until November 5th.
